University Board Votes to Keep Chick-fil-A on Campus Despite Protests

3 May

Elon University’s board of trustees voted to keep Chick-fil-A on campus despite protests from the “tolerant” student government.

The Elon University board of trustees voted last week to keep a Chick-fil-A on campus despite a vote from the school’s student government to remove the popular fast food chain for its president’s stance against gay marriage.

The movement to oust the chicken sandwich restaurant began last year when company president Truett Cathy stated his opposition to gay marriage…

…Student reaction to the decision has been mixed.

Cameron Saucier, a sophomore at Elon, said he believes there are more important things for the board to worry about than a restaurant primarily known for its chicken sandwiches.

“We’ve had several public forums and committees to discuss whether to keep a fast food chain when we have tuition hikes coming up next year and other issues that need to be addressed,” Saucier stated. “It’s kind of ridiculous.”

He said he believes the entire Chick-fil-A controversy was a result of political correctness taking over his college campus and is representative of how opposing thoughts are not welcomed at Elon.

“Political correctness has just gone way too far on Elon’s campus and the whole incident should’ve never happened in the first place,” Saucier commented.

While Saucier seemed fine with the school’s decision, members of Elon’s LGBT community were offended that the school decided to keep the restaurant.

“The fact that Elon condones [Chick-fil-A] both surprises and upsets me,” Holly Brown, a member of the LGBT group Spectrum, told Elon Local News. “You would think preventing discrimination would be more important than a chicken sandwich.”

When Liberals Attack: Seattle May Day

2 May

Leftists in Seattle behaving about like you would expect yesterday.  One can only imagine what the reaction would be if a Conservative group did something like this.  Obama would probably already have a press conference scheduled to call for civility, or something.  But, since it’s people who side with Democrats on most issues, it will get hardly any coverage (if any) from the Democrat media.

In Seattle, protesters threw rocks and bottles at police officers and news crews. As they moved through downtown Seattle to another neighborhood, they flung construction street barriers, trash cans and newspaper bins on the streets in an attempt to stop police officers. Windows of businesses were broken and vehicles with people in them were banged around.

At one point, a crew from CBS Seattle affiliate KIRO-TV was surrounded by rowdy protesters. They spit and sprayed Silly String on KIRO reporter David Ham and hit his photographer, the station reports.

One Thing is Clear, it is Not About the Children Anymore

14 Sep

It’s all about the kids.  Right?  Wrong.  Teachers in Tacoma, WA are illegally striking over pay, class sizes and the way teachers are transferred and reassigned.  The teachers of this district are best paid teachers in their county, and fifth highest-paid among the state’s largest districts.

Thousands of students in Washington state’s third-largest school district will be spending a second day out of class as school officials seek a court order to force hundreds of striking teachers back to work.”

“A Superior Court hearing has been scheduled at 9 a.m. Wednesday on the Tacoma School District’s request for an injunction to order nearly 1,900 teachers back to work. The district’s lawyers contend that public employees cannot legally strike under state law.”

“The district has canceled Wednesday classes for Tacoma’s 28,000 students. In Washington state, only the Seattle and Spokane school districts are larger.

Teachers hit the picket lines Tuesday after voting overwhelmingly Monday night to strike over issues that include teacher pay, class size and the way the district’s teachers are transferred and reassigned. Tacoma teachers had been working without a contract since school started Sept. 1.”

“Tacoma teachers earned an average salary of $63,793 during the last school year, according to the district. They are the best-paid teachers in Pierce County and about the fifth-highest paid among the state’s largest districts..”

“The district said it has also offered to keep class size maximums at the current level. The union wants to decrease class sizes, but the district says subtracting one child per class could cost the district about $1.8 million a year.”

I think of these stories every time I hear a Democrat say we need to spend more on education.  It’s not the kids they are worried about.  It’s the teachers unions that matter most.  Kids don’t donate to Democrats.  Kids don’t have a portion of their pay checks go to union dues that end up in the campaign coffers of Democrats.  Democrats want money spent on education so that as many teachers as possible stay employed so that the money keeps flowing.

Follow the money:  you pay taxes, the government spends money on “education” that ends up keeping teachers employed and new ones hired, teacher pays union dues, teachers’ unions give all the money to Democrats, Democrats spend it on their reelection.  So, in essence, we are all funding Democrat campaigns, whether we like it or not.

Union-Backed Democrat Still Won’t Concede in Wisconsin

12 Apr

Only to a Democrat does this make sense.  When the Democrat JoAnne Kloppenburg had a razor-thin lead of only 200 votes over here Republican challenger (and incumbent), Supreme Court Justice David Prosser, she had no problem going on television declaring victory.  But after it was discovered that a mistake was made during the counting of the votes, giving Prosser a 7300 vote lead, she will not concede.

Kloppenburg declared victory the day after the election, based on unofficial results that showed her with a razor-thin 204-vote lead. But the very next day, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said she had failed to report more than 14,000 votes, which flipped the outcome of the race in Prosser’s favor by about 7,500.

Who’s Up for Some “Virginity Testing”?

25 Mar

Looks like the revolution in Egypt might not be working out too good.

According to Amnesty International (emphasis mine):

Amnesty International has today called on the Egyptian authorities to investigate serious allegations of torture, including forced ‘virginity tests’, inflicted by the army on women protesters arrested in Tahrir Square earlier this month. After army officers violently cleared the square of protesters on 9 March, at least 18 women were held in military detention. Amnesty International has been told by women protesters that they were beaten, given electric shocks, subjected to strip searches while being photographed by male soldiers, then forced to submit to ‘virginity checks’ and threatened with prostitution charges.

In a related story, and not surprising to anyone except maybe the NY Times, it appears that the Muslim Brotherhood is joining forces with the Egyptian military.

In post-revolutionary Egypt, where hope and confusion collide in the daily struggle to build a new nation, religion has emerged as a powerful political force, following an uprising that was based on secular ideals. The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group once banned by the state, is at the forefront, transformed into a tacit partner with the military government that many fear will thwart fundamental changes.

It is also clear that the young, educated secular activists who initially propelled the nonideological revolution are no longer the driving political force — at least not at the moment.

Wow!  So, the “young, educated secular activists” are out and the hard-line fundamentalist Muslims are in.  What a shocker!

“Predominantly White Crowd”

16 Mar

Remember how every Tea Party rally was reported by the Democrat media as a “predominantly white crowd,” which obviously meant that they were racists.  Right?

This is a great piece detailing the hypocrisy of the coverage of Tea Party rallies vs Wisconsin union protesters. There sure were a lot of lilly-white people protesting in Wisconsin.  I wonder if they are racists?
