I think that we can all agree that if there is anyone who knows who does, or doesn’t, have a “Latino heart” it’s white dudes. Am I right?
Gary King is a white man and is the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Mexico. He is challenging incumbent Republican Governor Susana Martinez, who is Hispanic. Recently at a fundraiser King recalled the words of a previous speaker, Hispanic labor activist Dolores Huerta, and told his guests that Martinez “does not have a Latino heart.”
“She said you can’t go out there and just vote for somebody for governor because they have a Latino surname,” King says. “She said you have to look at them and find out if they have a Latino heart. And we know that Susana Martinez does not have a Latino heart.”
I’ll be on the look out for the outrage from Hispanic groups demanding an apology from Gary King.
More here from The Weekly Standard.
A Democrat legislator in New Mexico, House Majority Whip Sheryl Williams Stapleton, allegedly refers to GOP Governor Susana Martinez as:
“the Mexican on the fourth floor”
In her defense, she:
acknowledged confronting Espinoza on the integrity issue, then making the remark about the governor, but she said she did not mean it in a derogatory way or as an ethnic slur.
Oh, good! Whew! I’m sure glad to hear that she didn’t mean it in a derogatory way or as an ethnic slur.
Can you imagine if a Republican had said this? This would be breaking news on every single Democrat Media channel and front page news on all the Democrat newspapers (NY Times, LA Times, Boston Globe, etc.). They would make sure that everyone, particularly Latinos, knew that a Republican referred to a sitting female governor as “the Mexican on the fourth floor.” We would hear pundit after pundit asking what this means for Republicans going into the elections next year. Will this further alienate Latinos from Republicans? Will this send the Latinos running to Obama and the Democrats?
But since it was a Democrat who said it, you probably won’t ever hear about it other than reading this.
