“The Chimichanga Wars”

17 Feb

This is exactly why Republicans and Conservative writers, commentators and pundits should never apologize when liberals cry and moan, claiming to be offended by something that they’ve said.

Liberal Danal Milbank recently wrote a column in the Washington Post and stated ‘The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.”  It was such a popular line to liberals that President Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted “Line of the day from WAPO’s Dana Milbank. ‘The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.'”

The reaction from Conservatives was quick.  The Republican National Committee and the conservative Hispanic Leadership Network demanded he apologize.  This is the response from Dana Milbank:

“To those demanding my apology, I say: That’s nacho place. I flauta your demands. In the chimichanga wars, I will taco no prisoners — and that’s for churro.”

Classy.  I wonder what the reaction would be if a Republican made a comment that was offensive to Hispanic voters, which led to a liberal Hispanic group calling for an apology (particularly in an election year!)?  I also wonder what the reaction would be if that same Republican responded by piling on and taunting those calling for an apology with even more of the same insensitive remarks that led for the demand for the apology in the first place?

I can’t think of a more childish, immature and idiotic way to make a point than to belittle Hispanic people by rattling off menu items from a Mexican restaurant.
